Concerts of Pyatnicky Choir during Sochi Paralympics 2014 at the final of Culture Olympics
March 8-9 2014 Sochi, Sochi Medals Plaza |
Thanks to the participation of Pyatnicky Choir, the oldest professional folk choir in Russia, in the final of Culture Olympics the multinational audience got acquainted with the spiritual beginnings of the Russian culture.
The choir was founded on March 2, 1911 by Mitrofan Pyatnicky, the prominent researcher and advocate of the folk art. The very first performance of the choir, that at that time consisted of peasants from various Russian provinces, had shaken both the musical elite and humble audience by the pristine and inspirational magic of a folk song.
Today amongst the main aims of the choir is the popularization and development of all genres of the folk art. It has been on tour literally in every corner of the Former Soviet Union, as well as in more than 40 various countries.
The musicians of the choir try to add the modern sound to the ancient folk songs, while saving their modesty, grandeur and sincerity. As for the superior creative skills of the choir – they do not change with the time.
The project was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
