Argentinian Artists on Tour in Russia during the Year of Culture between Russia and Argentina
27 May - 5 July 2015 Moscow, St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod |
Orquesta Victoria, an Argentinian Tango Orchestra, gave their first concert in Russia on the stage of the Moscow Theatre of Estrada on May, 27. 12 musicians of the orchestra were accompanied by the singer Noelia Moncada and tango dancers Leandro Gómez and Marcela Vespaciano. The second show took place onstage of the St. Petersburg Theatre of the Musical Comedy. Both theatres were full and the spectators could truly appreciate the original versions of famous tango hits played by the orchestra.
The tour of Argentinian artists in Russia was continued with the opera concerts in the legendary Grand Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonics and the Mayor Hall of the Philharmonics of Veliky Novgorod. Russian opera lovers of both cities witnessed amazing performances of a rising Argentinian star, soprano Marina Silva, and a famous Argentinian tenor, Dario Volonté. The artists performed with the Academic Symphonic Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonics and the Chamber Orchestra of the Novgorod Philharmonics under the conduction of Mikhail Agrest (Mariinsky Theatre).
Visual arts were represented by the Human Landscapes, an exhibition of modern Argentinian photography. It was held between June, 16 and July, 4 in the magnificent Red Hall of the Winzavod, one of the most prominent modern art centres in Russia. The exhibition consisted of 35 works of 7 Argentinian photographers – Alejandro Chaskelberg, Luis Abadi, Florencia Blanco, Laura Glusman, Nicolás Yanowsky, Rosana Schoijett and Gonzalo Maggi. The works, different by their aesthetics, were united by an idea of showing a human being in the natural habitat. By the depth of comprehension of everyday life of Argentinians they differed greatly from the usual glossy tourist landscapes.
Such events undoubtedly contribute to the rapprochement of our countries, development of a constructive dialogue and effective partnership. It is clear that the year of 2015 opened new opportunities for cultural, political and economic cooperation between Russia and Argentina.
The project was a part of the Year of Culture between Argentina and Russia supported and financed by the Ministries of Culture of the Argentinian Republic and the Russian Federation. The events were organized by the DANCE OPEN Festival with the assistance of the Centre of Modern Art Winzavod and the Exhibition Halls of Moscow.
